Weiner risked it all, and has lost most of it

After putting up a brave front for weeks, fending off heavy pressure from party leaders up to and including President Obama, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner has apparently decided to resign.

It’s the right decision. While Weiner could have toughed it out and remained in Congress, he had no chance of serving as a credible or effective political voice. He chose to put gamble all that, along with his marriage, in an incredibly stupid and sordid series of actions, and the political side of the gamble has been lost. I wish him luck in salvaging the rest.

It’s time to pay up and move on.

Hey, how’s David Vitter doing over there in the Senate? His prostitute addiction didn’t slow Mr. Family Values down for very long, did it? Still in D.C. fighting the good fight against health insurance for poor children, education in schools, and the rights of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens to choose their spouses w/o gubmint interference. What a GREAT “values” guy!

Double standards: forgiveness isn’t for everybody, just for people who matter. (Did Jesus get the memo?)

Well, one measly little picture. Or maybe two or three. And look what happened. He looked down and said, “Hey! I got a idea! What if . . .?” This is what happens when you get ideas. You’re alot better off not to think much. Or at least to make sure you’re thinking with the big head. It sure is going to be hard when he goes for his next job innervue and gets asked, “What was your latest accomplishment?”

Like I always say, there’s only four people that are suppose to see it. Your Mommy when you’re a baby, your Dr. when something’s wrong with it, the undertaker when you croak, and you, if you can’t look straight ahead and just have to be a pervert.

Have a good a.m. everybody.

I really don’t agree with the media’s double standard here. The media barely covered the Vitter and Ensign controversy. No Republican or major media figures called for their resignations. Larry Craig served out his term. South Carolina Governor Sanford served out his term. If you add up the number of print and television stories covering these four guys (all of whom broke the law–all of whom ran on family values platforms) they still won’t add up to the coverage of the Wiener scandal, a scandal in which no law was broken.

Rollins, in turn, had succeeded another district attorney, Edmund Dinis, whose career was derailed by a single case --his slap-on-the-wrist prosecution of Ted Kennedy after a passenger in his car, Mary Jo Kopechne, drowned on Chappaquiddick in 1969.
